Youth Mainstage Productions offer the more experienced young performer the opportunity to participate in a fully realized process--professionally directed, choreographed and designed from audition to opening night. Please contact Lindsey at 603.433.4793 ext. 125 for information.
Audition Information and Requirements
Those auditioning for a Youth Mainstage Production will likely be asked to come prepared with 32 bars of an uptempo song and 16 bars of ballad. However, the audition requirements are based what the show director wants to see. Check the audition notices for the specific show to be sure this is correct. Bring your sheet music in a binder neatly marked for the accompanist. Bring along a headshot and resume.
Appointments are required for the auditions and should be made ahead of time by emailing Lindsey Nelson at LNelson@seacoastrep.org. Your appointment will be 5 minutes long. Depending on the show, there may or may not be a dance call on the day of your audition. This information will be provided either in the audition notice or when you make an audition appointment. Arrive at the audition space early to fill out paperwork and get settled.
Rehearsal Schedule
Rehearsals are mostly held either at the theatre or at SRT2 (the Grange) located in Kittery, Maine, just 5 minutes over the Memorial Bridge. Youth Mainstage shows may rehearse up to 6 days a week. A tentative rehearsal schedule will be handed out on the day of auditions. Youth Mainstage shows require a larger time commitment than a Youth Workshop Productions and rehearsals may go until 10pm depending on the age of the cast.
Performances
All actors are called to the theatre 1 hour prior to the performance to get into costume and make-up. Attendance at all performances is mandatory unless otherwise arranged between the parent and the director during the casting process. Performances include 3 weeks of performances including mid-week school matinees. The tentative rehearsal and performance schedule will be handed out on the day of auditions.
School Matinees
There are 2 - 3 weekday performances for each Youth Mainstage Production. You are encouraged to invite your classmates to come see the show! The audience will be filled with students, teachers and chaperones and after each show we will have a Question and Answer period with the audience. Yes, you will miss school. Check in with your teachers and hand in your homework ahead of time!
Conflicts
It is extremely important that we are aware of any and all conflicts prior to the start of rehearsal. Bring your schedules to the audition! If you have conflicts with the rehearsal/performance schedule, it does not mean you will not be cast. However, we do need to make arrangements to have your part covered as necessary.
Casting
All cast members will receive a phone call at home to confirm. Those that are not cast in the show will receive an email. More details are distributed and discussed at the audition.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to schedule an audition appointment?
Yes. Contact Lindsey Nelson at LNelson@seacoastrep.org to make an appointment. See Audition Info and Requirements above.
Can I sing acapella?
We need to know that you are able to sing and match pitch with piano accompaniment. Sheet music is required. Bring your sheet music in a binder clearly marked for the accompanist. The more organized the better.
My son/daughter is 8/9, is it appropriate that he/she audition?
For Into the Woods, we are auditioning ages 19 and under. Based on the difficultly of the music (Sondheim) and the lack of an ensemble/chorus, it is likely that more experienced performers will be cast. However, auditioning is great experience. Ultimately the decision is up to the director so if you’re interested in being in the show, go ahead and audition! We will be auditioning ages 16 and under for Schoolhouse Rock Live Too! This show will allow for a broader range of ages.
Any helpful audition tips?
- * Remember that your audition begins as soon as you walk in theatre doors.
- * Speak slowly, loudly and clearly. The folks sitting all the way in the back row want to hear you just as well as the folks sitting in the front row. Use your STAGE VOICE!
- * Come prepared! Memorize your material. Practice at home or in front of friends and family.
- * Smile.
- * HAVE FUN!!!!!!
