A New Brain

A New Brain

January 25-27

Gordo, a young writer for a popular network children’s show (with aspirations of something greater) finds his life and his work interrupted by an unexpected brain tumor. In his coma he experiences a journey through his subconscious and thru facing death – he faces life. Featuring beautiful music by William Finn, and a witty and heartfelt book by Finn and James Lapine, two theatre giants with credits that include The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Falsettos, and Into the Woods. ‘A New Brain’ is a compelling musical tale of one man’s re-birth based on Finn’s own experience with a brain trauma and art-fueled recovery.

A New Brain premiered off-Broadway in 1998, and since has been revived in cities around the world. Now we’re performing it for a one-weekend limited run.

Directed by the Mad Men of Oopsie Daisy Inc., Brandon James and Ben Hart, “A New Brain” is a contemporary musical dramady featuring over a dozen of the Seacoast’s finest theatre artists flexing their muscles in this exciting and fresh piece of musical storytelling that has never before been seen on the Seacoast. For one weekend only, Seacoast Rep’s Red Light Series presents an all-star cast bringing to life a gem of the contemporary musical theatre catalogue.
The Red Light Series was commissioned to Keep Portsmouth Weird. Our artist-curated series works to present new, exciting, overlooked, or reimagined performances. A New Brain is the first Red Light Mainstage of the year.
