The Portsmouth Academy of Performing Arts Teen Mainstage Gets Jazzy
Paint the town with us January 9th – 18th
Seacoast Rep and the Portsmouth Academy of Performing Arts are pleased to present CHICAGO! What better way to ring in 2020 than with the longest running Broadway musical performed by the most talented teens on the Seacoast?
Winner of six Tony’s, two Oliver awards, and a Grammy, CHICAGO turns up the underbelly of a city swarming with murder, romance, corruption, and all that jazz. Two murderous vaudevillians, Velma Kelly and Roxy Hart, do their crimes and their time with a murderers row of jilted husbands, seedy lawyers, slobbering press, and more – only to emerge more glamorous than before. But fame is fleeting, and the razzle only dazzles so long.
Our talented teens have been rehearsing under the guiding eye of Chryssie Whitehead. Chryssie Whitehead is originally from South Carolina and began her career as a Rockette right out of high school. From there she studied musical theatre at AMDA Conservatory. 20 years later she would go on to perform the role of Velma on Broadway in CHICAGO, as the understudy.
Chryssie has career spanning 20 years working in Los Angeles and New York, acting in over 13 television shows such as GREYS ANATOMY and film, most notably known for a romantic comedy, still streaming on Netflix with Raven Simone, REVENGE OF THE BRIDESMAIDS. She landed the role of Kristine in the documentary, EVERY LITTLE STEP that followed the auditions for the Broadway revival of “A CHORUS LINE. She has co-starred with Neal Patrick Harris as Kathy in COMPANY at Lincoln Center filmed for PBS GREAT PERFORMANCES. Directing credits include GREASE, ALLADIN, SHREK, INTO THE WOODS and HAIRSPRAY in 2020.
