COVID-19 can try to tear her down, but Hedwig is going to give her the whole Angry Inch. Seacoast Rep is pleased to re-open for live-only limited audiences at a limited capacity with Hedwig – the perfect hostess for live-only limited audiences. Whether
Innovative, heartbreaking, and savagely funny, Hendwig and the Angry Inch is the landmark musical by John Cameron Mitchell and Stephen Trask that broke the mold and captured Broadway. This genre-bending, fourth-wall-smashing musical sensation, with a pulsing score and electrifying performances, tells the story of one of the most unique characters to ever hit the stage.
Hedwig Schmidt, a leather-fisted East German rock ‘n’ roll goddess who also happens to be the victim of a botched sex-change operation, which has left her with just “an angry inch.” This outrageous and unexpectedly hilarious story is dazzlingly performed by Hedwig in the form of a rock gig/stand-up comedy routine, live confession backed by the hard-rocking band “The Angry Inch.”
Hedwig will be reprised by award-winning Seacoast Rep resident Jason Faria (A New Brain, Avenue Q) and backed up ferociously by Associate Artistic Director Alyssa Dumas along with a rocksteady band of veterans. This is not just a cult hit, but a cult hit done by a crew that’s done it best.
Hedwig and the Angry Inch is not appropriate for all audiences. It contains animated depictions of sexual assault, instances of transphobic and homophobic language, implied child abuse, and other content which might cause problems for those struggling with mental health or other related issues. Take care of yourselves and research the content if you think this may be an issue.
