Help Us Install a Sprinkler System in our Lobby
*Update August 4th, 2019*
Late last year, working closely with the City of Portsmouth, we were given a long list from the fire department detailing work that needs to get done in our aging building to bring it up to modern day codes.
Over the past year and a half, we’ve been working our way through that list. We’ve already spent nearly $200,000 and we’re about 75% through the list. We’ve torn down and rebuilt three flights of concrete and steel stairs, we’ve added additional lighting in our stairwells and in the theater, we’ve added more railing, we’ve done work in the back of the theater that addresses flooding and other issues that can affect the integrity of a building, we’ve torn up the outdoor steps to identify the leak that was causing the women’s bathroom to flood on rainy days, we’ve made changes to our backstage area, and the city of Portsmouth has torn up the road on Bow street to repair and replace pipes to get it ready for the last major project on our list – install a sprinkler system in our lobby. There’s also more work that needs to be done in our theater but the projects are smaller in scope.
We have to raise an additional $90,000 by September in order to complete our fire safety mandates. Our board of trustees has put together a $10,000 matching donation to help us get there. We are trying our best to not incur more debt for these projects, so we are asking for your help. Will you make a tax-deductible donation to the Seacoast Repertory Theatre today and help us finish our work?
We won’t be stopping once our fire safety mandates are done. We plan on using this opportunity to make some much needed improvements to our lobby such as installing new floors, remodeling our bar and taking our first steps toward sustainability, expanding the footprint of our women’s restroom to help eliminate long lines, fixing leaks in our ceiling so our patrons don’t get rained on, and more. This work will happen all the way through 2020 and will only be able to happen as we find funding.
