Our Town

By Thornton Wilder

May 5th-June 4th

Sponsored by The River House

With all new original underscore orchestrations and live Foley sound effects by Ethan Hackett!

Described by Edward Albee as "the greatest American play ever written," Our Town has touched the hearts of millions in countless stage revivals and adaptations - and now is gracing the stage of Seacoast Repertory Theatre in a stunning new production! A work as eternal as its subject matter, it presents the life and death of everyday people in the small American town of Grover's Corners at the turn of the 20th century. Known for its exquisite beauty and heartbreaking simplicity, Our Town is a celebration of life that won’t leave a dry eye in the house. To add to the sensory experience of this beloved piece, The Rep’s production features original string orchestrations and "Foley" sound effects - all performed live onstage.

Our Town strikes to the core of what it is to be alive, what it is to appreciate our loved ones and neighbors, and what it is to experience every last moment of this wonderful life (even the smallest of ones!) with all of our senses. Don’t miss one of the most beautiful and timeless events of our 2022 season!

Join us on May 21st for a conversation with Howard directly following the matinee performance of Our Town! Howard will discuss the history and impact of Our Town, and its popularity and pervasiveness in American culture. Through extensive interviews with more than 100 artists and thorough research of the play’s genesis in the American theatre scene, he “makes a case for the healing powers of Wilder's text to a world confronting multiple crises.”
