PAPA Presents: Violet

April 6 – 15, 2017

Our talented students take on the same challenge as our professional company with Violet, the story of one woman’s quest to be beautiful set against the backdrop of the 1960’s. Facially disfigured from a childhood accident, Violet sets off on a cross-country bus trip to find a televangelist she believes can heal her, and finds friendship and the adventure of a lifetime along the way.

Winner of a Drama Critic’s Circle Award for Best Musical and nominated for four Tonys, Violet delights with a variety of musical styles and touching harmonies.

With a score from Tony-winning composer, Jeanine Tesori (Caroline Or Change, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Shrek, Fun Home) and book and lyrics by the acclaimed Brian Crawley (A Little Princess), Violet is inspired by the short story, The Ugliest Pilgrim by Doris Betts, astounding critics and audiences alike in two separate decades.
