2020 PAPA Season
Teen Mainstage Presents: RENT School Edition
July 3rd — 19th
A picture of a gentrifying community in the midst of the AIDS crisis. For a lot of theatre kids, RENT was their first experience with a relevant “edgy” gritty-but-hopeful contemporary musical. Now our teens will take their turn.
• These performances are held at the STAR Theatre in Kittery, ME •
Teen Mainstage Presents: Sweeney Todd
November 5th — 8th
The teens take on the same challenge as the professional cast of Sweeney Todd — tackling one of the harder musicals in all of theatre. They’re up to the challenge.
The Portsmouth Academy of Performing Arts was founded even before our theatre, and continues to be a cornerstone of our mission. Each year we train hundreds of performers of all ages in all aspects of stagecraft, from acting, to singing, to dancing, to improv and more. We have a number of production series, for performers and audiences of all ages:
PAPA Vacation Camps are open to ages 7 – 14, and is the best way for children to spend their Winter and Spring breaks! Students will use their creativity and imagination to strengthen their performance skills, meet new friends, and increase their self-confidence, all the while having fun! Students learn theatre terminology and history, improve their singing and acting skills, and even present a showcase for parents on the final Friday of camp!
PAPA Day Camps are open to ages 8 – 14, and is designed to introduce, identify and strengthen each participant’s performance skills, self-confidence, creativity, and ability to work with others. Using song, dance, improvisation, theater games and scene study, performers take part in hands-on training in live theater production. Each 2-week session culminates in a fully-staged theatrical performance open to the public.
PAPA Jr productions are open to ages 8 – 14, and give young actors the opportunity to perform student-friendly, author-approved versions of classic musicals while sharing the Mainstage set.
Teen Mainstage productions are for students ages 13 – 18, giving them the opportunity to work closely with our professional production team and take center stage in a full-length Broadway musical or play.
